ATTICA, Ind. (CNS) — Donald P. Haas, 37, of Hammond, a former resident of Attica, was killed in a semi-truck accident on U.S. Route 66 near Newburg, Mo., at 2 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 22, 1968). Mr. Haas, driver of the truck which was carrying a load of steel, was killed instantly. Donald Demill of Hammond, owner of the truck, was a passenger and not seriously injured. This was the first trip on the new job for Mr. Haas. Born at Lafayette, Sept. 8, 1930, he was the son of Perry F. and Martha Lockard Haas. He was married Jan. 11, 1963, at Williamsport, to Wilma Dean Crawford Hartman. Mr. Haas, who had resided in Hammond for two months, had lived most of his life in Attica and had attended the Attica Schools. He was a bartender at the Attica Hotel for several years. He is survived by the widow; three daughters, Katrina K. (Candy), Wendy Lee, and Tina Marie, all of Attica; two stepdaughters, Cecilia and Murial A. (Toni), both of Attica; his father, Perry Haas of Merrillville; his mother, Mrs. Martha Lockard Fugate of St. Cloud, Fla.; the stepfather, Donald Fugate of Attica; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Mae Haas of Attica; and two sisters, Mrs. Richard Brooks of St. Cloud, Fla. and Mrs. Linda Pintar of Merrillville. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica with the Rev. Harold Bachert officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Attica. Donald P. Hass, 37, was fatally injured in a truck accident near Newburg, Mo., at 2 a.m. Thursday morning. At the time of the accident, Haas was driving a semi loaded with steel, en route from Hammond to Oklahoma City. The truck was owned by Don McGill, leased to a consolidated trucking company. Mr. Haas was born in Lafayette on Sept. 8, 1930, the son of Perry F and Martha Lockard Haas. He was married Jan. 11, 1963, to Wilma Dean (Crawford) Hartman. He had lived in Attica most of his life and had been a resident of Hammond about two months. He had attended Attica schools and had worked at Hotel Attica as a bartender for some time. He was also formerly employed at Harrison Steel castings Co. Surviving with the widow are three daughters, Katrina Day (Cindy), Wendy Lee and Tina Marie; two step-daughters, Cecelia and Murial A.(Toni)/two sisters, Mrs. Richard Brooks of St. Cloud, Fla., and Mrs. Linda Pintar of Merrrillville, Ind.; the mother, Mrs. Martha Lockard Fugate of St. Cloud. Fla,; the father, Perry Haas of Merryville, In.; the step-father, Donald Fugate, of Attica, and the paternal grandmother, Mattie Haas of Attica. Friends were received at DeSutter Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services were held at the DeSutter Chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, with Rev. Harold Bachert of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. -- typed by br
